When an emergency happens we “respond” to it based on how we planned and trained for it. The most important things for us are to protect lives, protect property, and try to keep the emergency from getting any bigger. Residents can be a part of the response effort by volunteering.

Recovery is the longest and most difficult part of emergency management. This is the phase where we help communities rebuild after a disaster, and try to get them back to normal as quickly as possible. When disasters are really big, such as earthquakes, or hurricanes, or really big fires, this can take a long time.
